Abalone Hair Tie Kit: This is one of our Grandmother Series kits, which are designed exclusively for Native Essence by a Cherokee Grandmother for the purpose of passing on her heritage to future generations. We carry on with these kits in honor of her memory, since she has since passed, but not before adopting me (the store owner) as her daughter in the traditional Indian way. This kit allows you to create an abalone hair tie just as they have been made by the Indians for centuries. This style has a large 1 1/4 inch Abalone Disc as the center piece that ties to your hair, and includes plastic crow beads, and hair pipes (to keep it light weight), and is finished off with Cowrie Shells at the bottom of each strand. The kit includes all the materials you need, with durable yet soft deer skin for tying it in your hair. This is exactly as my "Mom" designed it, but can be made shorter by leaving out some of the beads if you prefer.
